Two more new champions

  1. Two championship shows done this year and already we have four new champions! Chris Blance (Penliath) judged at the Midland WCC and the show belonged to the Twinan team. Tracy and Kath Irving ended up with a third CC plus BOB and BIS for Twinan Tight Squeeze, RBB with her half-sister Twinan Shake The Tree (one CC, Twinan Dip Yer Butty ex Twinan Just The Ticket) and BPIS with Twinan Finger Licking Good (Ch Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan ex Twinan Dipped In Chocolate at Trebettyn). As if this were not enough they took BOB and RBIS with their Hungarian-bred Cardi and RBD too! Tight Squeeze won her first two CCs in two days aged eight months on the Irish weekend in 2018, at WCC of Ulster under Sigurd Wilberg and Belfast, Debbie Stansbury. Her sire is Twinan Dip Yer Butty, one CC, by Ch Creslow Wicked Rumour at Twinan ex Twinan Sweet Little Mystery, who are cousins as Rumour’s dam and Mystery’s sire are both by Ch Highworth Northern Lights over Pendrell ex Saphina Dance Of The Hours. Rumour brings in American lines as his sire is Am/Dutch Ch Sandfox Eweknow Eclipse Of The Heart, while Mystery’s dam is the first tailed champion Scottots Caileag Math at Twinan, a daughter of Ch Twinan Custom Made who is also sire of Dance Of The Hours and grandsire of Northern Lights. Tight Squeeze’s mother is Debsanna’s Promises Twinan, a daughter of Ch Debsanna’s Costa Lot. He is also linebred to Custom Made as his sire, Ch Highworth Cut The Mustard for Twinan, is by a bother to Dance Of The Hours ex a sister to Northern Lights, while his dam is by the Custom Made son Ch Salvenik Star Made. The new champion’s maternal granddam is the Russian import Andvol Erika at Twinan, whose sire Rus/Ukr/Mol Ch Ermyn Cranberry Frost (sire also of Ch Andvol Ya Tvoy Kumir) is a son of Ch Ermyn Wing And A Prayer and has a touch of the royal Windsor line on his dam’s side. Erika’s mother, Andvol Hi-Fi, is by one of Tracy and Kath’s exports, Rus/Slo/Pol Ch Twinan Gold Sovereign (by a Custom Made son ex Custom Made’s dam). The bottom section of the pedigree consists mainly of Finnish breeding and the tail female line eventually goes back to Int Ch Meljac Brandy Snap (exported from the UK to Siggen in Norway) and thence to Pengavin and Cowfold. In males Chris awarded another third CC, this time to Alan and Sarah Matthews’ Ir Ch Towernaglen Buster Moon at Craigycor, who becomes the first UK champion for Liam McCormick, though he has bred several Irish champions. His other CCs came at Darlington last year from Tom Johnston and South Wales, Tracy Irving. His sire is Ir Ch Craigycor Viva Las Vegas (one CC), a son of Ch/Ir Ch Craigycor Lightning Bolt and Craigycor Betty Boop and therefore a double grandson of Ch/Ir Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva via her matings to her half-brother Ch/Irt Ch Whitepoint Dream Weaver at Craigycor and to Ch/It/Int Ch Georges Clooney at Dragonjoy des Contamines. Buster’s dam Ir Ch Towernaglen Red Spinel is by Ir/Rus/Mol/Est Ch Craigycor Elfwish Mib (who had two American=-bred parents, Ch/Multi Ch Maplecreek Montgomery and Am Ch Elfwish Sally Ride, also dam of Viva La Diva). Spinel’s mother Craigycor Bobby Socks is another by Dream Weaver, ex Craigycor Russian Roulette (by Alan’s first US import Ch/Multi Ch Elfwish Leprechaun at Craigycor ex Ir Ch Shavals Fire Vision at Craigycor, sister of Ch/Ir/Am Ch Shavals Fire Classic at Craigycor who is Dream Weaver’s and Viva La Diva’s sire). The female line goes back via Ch Shavals Fire Odyssey to a long line of Belroyd bitches including Chs Popinjay and Jacana. RDCC and BV went to Mary Davies’ tri Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight (Ch/Am Ch Rosewood Set Sail to Salvenik ex Wharrytons Pansy Potter of Ermyn), while BPD was Lisa and Maria Franchi’s Saniaquinto High Society (Ch Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik ex Ermyn Moonlight Flyer at Saniaquinto) who is linebred to Snow Knight. At W/P Breeds of Scotland’s event for winners at open shows in Scotland, Kay Hogg’s Daleabbey’s Anything Goes Keltybrae was reserve best puppy under Albert Wight. Dawn Woodey’s Barawood Summer Solace is continuing her winning ways in Australia and her latest success with Joan and Bob Hutton is BOB at Canberra Royal. A reminder that the Pennine and Yorkshire and Midland clubs are holding a breed appreciation day on March 14 at Cabus Village Hall near Preston with Linda Roberts speaking. Details from Tracy Irving. The Cardigans have a BAD on April 11 with Sandra Muckle and Brenda Piears. This is at Langstone Village Hall near Newport, Gwent, run by the WCC, South Wales and South West clubs. Cerys Davies is the person to contact. Some more future CC judges approved: Sandra Muckle (Gowerston Cardis and formerly Pems) at South Wales CC later this month, and as I said in previous notes Annukka Paloheimo Segersven (Anncourt Cavaliers and King Charles, Finland) giving CCs in Pems for the first time at Southern Counties. Anne Indergaard (Annwn, Norway) will judge WCC of Ulster. Windsor ’21 has Gavin Parrish (Dangavlyns). One thing some people didn’t like about the new Judges Competency Framework was that there was no specific requirement for hands-on experience of dogs actually judged. After the recent review this has changed and the Kennel Club has now announced the figures involved for each breed. For Pembrokes, which are in Stud Book band C, the minimum requirement of dogs judged is 60 if you are going through the JCF pathway. If you choose to progress via the current system, the minimum number of dogs you will have to have judged is 120, ten more than at present. More details have been published online; at least now there is clarity about which events you can count dogs from. Sorry to hear that Elmsmere Sail To The Stars (Ch/Am Ch Rosewood Set Sail to Salvenik ex Barawood Christmas Star over Elmsmere) has died at seven years old. Bred and campaigned by Ros and Barry Gardiner, ‘Bella’ had a successful career and was a RCC winner, going on to be dam and grandma of current Elmsmeres in the ring. SIMON PARSONS
