As ever, Boston begins the UK championship show season but still without CCs on offer for Pembrokes.
It was nevertheless a good day for the breed and for Tracy and Kath Irving in particular. Judge was Sue Bird (Bridus Bearded Collies and Finnish Lapphunds) who gave BOB to Ch Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan (Hung/Rom/Greek/Mac Ch Born To Be Your Spartacus di Pi Et Ra ex Int/Rom Ch Twinan Colour Me Red).
They also took RBB with Twinan Shake The Tree (Twinan Dip Yer Butty ex Twinan Just The Ticket) and BP with Twinan Finger Lickin Good (Salty ex Twinan Dipped in Chocolate at Trebettyn). Salty went on to G4 under while his daughter on her debut at six months ended up PG2 judged by Mark Ord.
BB was Hannah and Pat Fawcett’s Ch Whitebarn Sea Shell (Ch Pemcader Thunderball ex Whitebarn Tabitha Twitchit) and RBD, Hilary and Ray Wyer’s tri Cottivy Cappuccino (Cottivy Skyfall ex Brisam Mokka at Cottivy).
Elessar Royal Salute was VHC in the junior stakes under Chris Hill while Shake The Tree was fourth in the yearling stakes judged by Fran Kaye.
Thanks to Amanda Rees for results from the South Wales CC open show where Sue Coulson (Woodhenge) had an entry of 56. It was another good day for an import with BOB and BP going to Kevin Dover, Lars Saether and Allan Taylor’s Anwyl Tell Me When (Aus Ch Anwyl Leaving On A Fast Train ex Aus Ch Anwyl Tell It Like It Is).
BB was Donia and Meirion Davies’ Cadiha Delilah (Cordach Gatland ex Zydahayes Cherry Ice) and reserves were Mary Davies’ Ermyn Snazzy Jazzy (Ch Nireno Luke Skywalker ex Ermyn Chasing Rainbow) and Carole Turner’s tri Cottonfields Black Eye’d Pea (Ir/Rus/Est Ch Craigycor Elfwish Mib ex Brynlluan Midnight Glow over Cottonfields) who was also BV. Carole also took BPB with the tri Cottonfields The Bond Girl (Woodhenge Star Agent for Pendrell ex Cottonfields Doris).
Some open show group successes to report - the next day at the Welsh Kennel Club, Mary’s Ermyn Chasing Rainbows was G4 under Judy Down, having won BOB under Brenda Piears. A nice day for Mary as Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight was best veteran in show, so success with three generations over two days.
I’ve already reported puppy group success at Taunton but there was also a G3 under Huw Bishop for Kim Warner’s tri Meitza Erik The King who was BOB under Bethan Williams. I gather there was a good turnout of Pems which is nice to see at an all-breed open show these days.
Don’t forget Crufts entries close on Jan 20.
