Tree Shaken at Monmouth

Our oldest breed club, the Welsh Corgi Club, held its championship show at a new venue, Monmouth School Sports Club, and I gather it proved a successful day.

Margaret Riley (Retmari) judged the males and chose Teresa Maddox’s Danish-bred Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik (Dan Ch Mistycor Once Upon A Dream ex Dan Ch Vuedor Could It Be Magic) for the dog CC, his second, following on from a second CC for his daughter Summer Rosebud at WPBAS.

Reserve went to David Jones’ tri Ceranda Surf’s Up (Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight ex Craigycor Lovely Maud with Ceranda, a sister of Chs Lightning Bolt and Campsie Princess). I wish I’d been there to see David’s joy at this award - he has supported the breed and shows, in Wales especially, for so many years and I’m sure that everyone present would have been thrilled to see him gain his first green card.

Judge of bitches was Diana King (Bimwich/Oregonian) and her CC was a first for Tracy and Kath Irving’s junior Twinan Shake The Tree (Twinan Dip Yer Butty ex Twinan Just The Ticket, a daughter of Chs Cut The Mustard and Delimma Lily).

Reserve was Nicki and Chris Blance’s puppy Penliath Bill Me Later (four CCs, Am/NZ Ch Coventry Esquire ex Ch Penliath Femme Fatale).

Shake The Tree went on to BIS under Kevin Dover (Pemcader) while Bill Me Later was RBIS and BPIS.

BV was Mary Magness’ Cordach Pirate King at Pemland (Barwal Buccaneer Boy at Pemland ex Ch Cordach Glamour Girl), with BVB to his aunt, Babs and Wally Aylott’s tri Barwal Belle (Foxfire Red Ruffian at Pemland ex Pemcader Belroyd Zoe of Barwal).

Thanks to Cerys Davies for the Pem results.

I’ll try to give a mention to any new Cardi champions and we had one today in Neil and Caitlin Thomas’ merle Gowerston Gwydion with his sister Gwynonwen taking the BCC. He’s a truly Welsh champion with all his CCs won there. I think he’s a first UK champion for his breeder-owners but not of course for the Gowerston affix.

The League Southern section Christmas party is at Worplesdon Memorial Hall on Sunday Dec 1 at 2pm, admission £5 adult, £3 under ten. Pay at the door but if you can let Bonnie Wyles know you are going that would be appreciated.

Very efficient results came from the Palmetto double specialty in the States which proved to be a great couple of days for DeDe Rodgers and Mary Greenwood’s bitch GCh Greenwoods Sparkling Diamond (Ch Greenwoods Midnight Flyer ex Ch Sandfox Greenwoods Chance Are) who was BOB both days under Anne Bowes (Heronsway) and Glenda Cook (Westglen, Australia).

Anne’s BOS was Bonnie, Diane and Lauren Hansen’s GChB Baymoor Imagination RA HSADM MX MXJ MXF VC (GCh Sandfox Cadenza ex GCh MACh Baymoor Levitation TD PT NXS MJS OF T2B VCX). Bonnie has a long history of producing Pems who are both good looking and extremely clever!

Best male under Glenda was Nancy and Mike Oehlhof’s GChS Springmill A Blast From The Past (GCh Springmill Sweet Talkin Guy ex GCh Springmill Dec Th’ Halls) who also sired winners dog and bitch that day.

A good weekend in Norway at the country’s big end-of-year shows for Julie Wilberg Brandvik’s Siggen’s Karamell (Ch Siggen’s Great Gatsby ex Ch Siggen’s Queen of Diamonds) who won the group at both events.
